Fantastic Tales For Free

PART 16

Now it is time for me to go back to my little family show. Behind me, sat around the table, Grandad, Uncle John, and everyone else are impatiently waiting for me. I’m planning on blowing them away with a few new card tricks they haven’t seen before, then I’ll most likely do two or three tricks with my miraculous rope, and top it all off with enchanted coins and goblets. Simple, but effective.

So off I go, but not before having asked you one last question: what would you say if, as a token of friendship, I showed you a trick of my own creation? It’s the least I can do, since you followed me to the end. Yeah, you want to? Let’s go:

Look at the six cards below. Except for one, they are the ones that were on the much talked about magic box:

1– king of diamonds

2– jack of clubs

3– king of spades

4– queen of diamonds

5– queen of spades

6– jack of hearts.

Now, take your imaginary wand and make one of the cards disappear. Any card. You did it? Perfect.

And now: Abracadabra! I can confidently announce that the card you made disappear with your imaginary wand is the one missing on the magic box’s lid, the one that has become all white!

You want proof? Go back to the beginning of the story, to the paragraph in PART 2 where I describe the lid of the box. You’ll see, as I said, that five of the six cards above are on it. The sixth one, the one that stands out from the others because it is all white, is the one you just chose and made disappear…

What are you waiting for? Memorise your card, stop reading immediately, and go check. Then come back here.

You did it? You went to see? And so? It’s the card you made disappear that is missing from the box’s lid, isn’t it? Isn’t it that one?

Bingo! I knew it!
